Parking lot lost and found......

We were a little uncertain about getting out of  Birmingham yesterday…but the ice and snow that paralyzed Atlanta(and canceled by bro-in-law’s flight to Boston) was not nearly as horrifying in Bham….so I was able to fly out pretty much on time, on a nonstop Southwest flight(God bless them) from there to Baltimore.

I was a few miles down the road from my sister’s house on the way to the airport when she called and said, “You left your coat and gloves!”(I still don’t know how I did this)…and since I really did want them/need them, we whipped around and hot-footed it back to meet her at a gas station in between. But when we all got there, she had dropped the gloves somewhere, in the mad dash for the car….so my other sister calls and says, “I have the gloves and I’m on my way!” Her husband said dryly, “It runs in the in the family“…..Thanks George. But we had such a good time together.

Cook that duck....

And I was not kidding about having duck for dinner…..though we also had Fat Mama’s tamales and roast pork tenderloin. (See the hoodie on Jan on the right? One day a man in line in front of her admired it and asked, “Is that vintage or just old?”…hilarious. Is there a difference?)

It wasn't all meat...

As you can see vegetables and fruit did at least make a token appearance. And to keep it interesting(as if we needed that)…we had a little something  on the game. Everybody put in 20 bucks…and we each got a certain number of squares in which we put our initials.

Here's my $20....I'm in....

And every time the score changed…. the initials  in the square that coincided with the last numbers in the score, won 5 bucks. I managed to get back 15 of  my $20….but my sister Audrey’s husband got most of it.( thanks again George). We all thought about how much Mom would have loved the fact that we were all together, AND that Auburn was in a national championship game….she was a big fan of both. I just wanted to share a little of the fun with you…..happy Wednesday everyone!

You have to give to receive….what Donna gave and what she got….

Santa has mean eyes, doesn't he?

I was thinking I had rounded up just about everything from the holidays, and put them away in their trusty crate…ornaments, Santas, angels, nutcrackers…..until I discovered one escapee hanging in the downstairs powder room(oh, the things Santa has been exposed to there…shocking…maybe that’s why he looks so incensed). That particular Santa I bought on a shoot for Great County Inns in Michigan, in Traverse Bay and Santa has real fur on his hat and for his beard.  I will let him stay a little longer, but the rest is gonzo.

I was pretty happy with the family gifts I sent this year….Cheryl’s cookies to one sister, Fat Mama’s Tamales to another…they may think I’m trying to make them fat..not so, of course :)…

Wow...now that is Sparkle power...

Let’s see… there were gold sequin Uggs featured on Oprah’s Ultimate Giveaway(I ordered them as soon as I saw them on tv) for my daughter who has always loved anything sparkly…still does.

Simple, elegant...looks good anywhere....

And for my son who has an iPad that is much beloved….a really great looking Block 22 Ipad stand by Sherwood and Meister-here…They are a small father-son design firm whose products are handmade. About them: “Our studio is located in the far northern reaches of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan surrounded by Lake Superior,  massive trees, open fields, a pack of sled dogs and a few pigs. We shovel snow for the 8 months of winter, and enjoy 14 hours a sunlight in the summer.” Come on…that is just plain fascinating! Love to meet these guys…

Ipad dock with stereo sound....

Along in the iPad theme, my son received this from Brookstone…it’s a stand and dock for the iPad with a speaker that is totally portable. He seemed to love them both.

Chan Luu wrap bracelet....

And for the lovely Jennifer a Chan Luu bracelet that I thought she would love….with tiny skulls on it. Oddly enough, my son gave her one that very similar….sooooo, she wears them both together!

Ok, enough about giving, what about what I got for Christmas??? Several things that I love, starting with Beats by Dr. Dre

Show me your Poker Face!!

Mine are part of the artist series …Heartbeats by Lady Gaga….….and I adored the little card the lovely Jennifer had included with them.  Gift cards with thought….a very nice touch.

So soft, so....silky!

And my sweet daughter gave me wonderful some ivory silk jammies….so soft…I adore them, especially at bedtime. Wish I had them on right now. And it’s good I got what I wanted…..here’s what happens when I don’t.

My older sister obviously torturing me....

Ok, that was a few years ago. I’m a much better sport now….really.

New Chairs and Fat Mama’s Tamales in the house…
December 17, 2010

Love the chairs....

Let me start with something pretty…I bought two of these chairs (from Overstock) to go at either end of the dining table(that is to be delivered on Monday)…and I really like them! The print in the background is going to go up on the wall there…it’s one from Relais & Chateax that I had signed by the artist, when I was in Quebec for  Great Country Inns years ago. I still love it and it’s prefect for a dining room, with a festive eating and drinking scene. But there is still much to be done.

Where did I get all this crap????

Pots and pans and various and sundry kitchen STUFF that needs to find a home. Some will get a new cabinet space, others will be taken to Goodwill..surely someone needs a potato ricer….anyone? Anyone? It’s shocking all the little gadgets and thingie-dos that accumulate in the cupboards, and you don’t even know they’re there until you clean it all out. Sigh.

So sad without it's door...so exposed...

ANd the dishwasher still needs its door to be atached…evidentally a little re-figuring has to be done..no slam dunk.

Fat Mama's in the house, ya'll!

But let’s end with something delicious,…especially on a Friday when thing should be a little delicious…Fat Mama’s Tamales-here,  came today….wrapped in the Natchez Democrat.  I first had Fat Mama’s years ago when I was actually in Natchez…such a lovely place to visit. We stumbled across Fat Mama’s…and I don’t think I’ve ever had such great tamales, and never forgot them.

Newspaper from Natchez Mississippi....

SO when I found they did mail order on the web…I ordered some for my sister in Gulf Shores(my other sister got Cheryl’s cookies) and some for me. I think how my amex card gets so high at Christmas…one for you, one for me…one for you, one for me…you know. But I wonder if the Natchez football players in the pic above have any idea they were the wrapping for six dozen tamales that ended up in Baltimore, MD…probably not. I salute you, Col-Lin Wolfpack…hope you’ve had a good season. And I hope all of you have a fabulous weekend, or even a decent one. Think of me still trying to get my kitchen straightened out and guests coming Sunday for lunch(overly optimistic? perhaps..). Play nice, don’t throw rocks and come home safe, ’cause we miss you!
