My view at Mercy Medical Center for a few hours....
If you follow me on Facebook, you know that my daughter was quite sick last week…she’s been staying at our house since Sunday a week ago….when she became terribly ill after lunch out(the babies always come home when sick). At first we thought food poisoning? But we all ate the same thing so, that couldn’t be it. Virus? Possible, but the throwing up was so unrelenting. And just the week before she’d had an endoscopy, because of several severe, painful attacks of what we thought was GERD… or gastro esophageal reflux disease. The endoscopy did show inflammation of the esophagus, so she was put on Nexium. And now this.
A call to the gastroenterologist …..who said, “I think we may have overlooked a gallbladder problem.” I was floored. So she went in for an ultrasound…and sure enough, her gallbladder was packed with gallstones. Next stop…surgery.

So Friday morning very early(we had to be there by 6:30 and after working the 11 pm news-oy vay)…..and the waiting begins….her surgery was laparoscopic, thank goodness. So we called back to get her dressed and take her home a few hours later. My daughter is saucy, it must be said, and to one nurse who was loudly clapping her hands and saying “Let’s move, let’s move, let’s move! “…she stared at her groggy from anesthesia and said, “Go. Just get out of here“, and waved her away. She has no memory of it now…but it was kinda funny.

She’s been recuperating at our house of course, where the supplies are stocked, the sheets are clean, and there’s always help or soup at hand(or most the time). But she’s getting better every day, and just today commented on how great it is to not feel sick anymore. Sore, yes, but not sick. Big difference.

Lots of people have asked if it’s common for someone in the 20s to have their gallbladder removed…I don’t think you’d call it common, but it’s not uncommon. Her surgeon at Mercy said it happens a lot more than you’d think. So she’s gonna be fine….and so am I. 🙂

Poor thing and yes, there is no one like Mom to take care of you when you are sick. I sure miss MY Mom when I’m not feeling well 😦 and I’m 47.
Anyway, yes, it’s good to not feel sick anymore. I had just turned 24 when mine came out but I was sick for a YEAR before it was figured out (I was fat and well some doc’s just want it to be that or “emotions.”) Anyway… remind her to eat low fat for a while and when she does eat something that is higher in fat to be, well, near a bathroom until her body adjusts. And it will.
I’m not on FB and glad to see you blogging more. This is about the ony connection I have left to your station. I got a little, let’s say unhappy, the way Marianne was let go and that was that for me. Not too mention what TV (not just your station) sees as “breaking news” is just NOT breaking news. I get all my news on the interwebs now! I may catch a few minutes of the 6pm newscast but that’s about it.
Hi Donna – so glad to hear Cada is on the mend, and hope you are feeling better too! Those darn gall bladders can wreak havoc but am happy that the problem has been “removed”. Sending prayers your way for a safe trip to Uganda.
Donna, Sorry to hear of your daughter’s illness. That is a very painful ordeal. I went through it several years ago. Once I recovered I had no more problems. She is fortunate ot have you to help take care of her. Hope she has a speedy recovery. Always look forward to your blogs. Lori

This young adults are so luckly to have Moms (&Dads) who can help them through such medical emergencies….see you were at Mercy…just there about 15 days ago with my 26yr old son who had a lymphnode removed for biopsy…all clear at the moment.
It is not fun to see you 20 somethin’s not feeling well.

Sorry to hear that your daughter has been ill. It’s awesome that you’ve been able to help her during her recovery. My Mom’s done the same for me, when I’ve had to recover from the more serious stuff. I know I am so grateful to her for the loving help she has been… as I am sure your daughter is as well! 🙂
Hi Donna..glad she is feeling better…my nephew was 25 when he had an issue with his gall bladder and had to have it removed…it seems like it isn’t as uncommon as some think…I’m looking for a Primary Care doc at Mercy …is your and your daughter’s Primary Care at Mercy….my GYN is there…just thought I would have everyone in one system…
OMG my 23 year old daughter just had her gall bladder removed too….. I blame my husband….LOL All his siblings and both parents are “gall bladderless”….. She too did very well and was so very glad not to have the pain anymore. Her boyfriend took her to the surgical center, but there was no way I wasn’t going to be there. My husband made fun of me but when it came time to go he was “shockingly” in the car with me. Still our little girl… Enjoy your blogs!!!
Sorry your baby girl was so sick. Thank goodness she is close to “home”. Glad you survived also. It really is harder on the parents. Give her a hug and kiss and tell her many people she doesn’t know are praying for her speedy recovery.
